Turtleneck || Skirt [c/o] || Heels || Similar Bag || Earrings
New season, new closet additions? Yes and double yes! I normally stay away from turtlenecks. I have major flashbacks to when I was kid in the 90s. They weren’t a good look for me then and I didn’t think they were going to be a good look for me now. But, there was just something about this gorgeous wine-colored pencil skirt from Talbots. It’s probably the most flattering skirt I’ve ever picked up and do you see that color? It’s simply perfect for Fall. Anyways, something about this skirt was just asking for a turtleneck. I wasn’t thinking anything too-too thick, but just a little thin layered top to throw on. Maybe it’s the color of the skirt or maybe I just have become subconsciously consumed with Fall finally being in the air. Whatever it was, I went shopping for a style tee that I never thought would be in my closet again.
That’s where this classic turtleneck tee from Talbots comes into play. Coming in 9 different colors, I’m starting to think that it’s an important staple to have in your wardrobe. The material is oh-so soft, but not too sheer that you might make you feel a little over-exposed. Just like I was looking for, it feels like a simple tee, it just has a more upgraded silhouette. That means it would still work perfectly under a blazer or sweater when the temps really start to drop this Winter. I may need to do a little more playing around, but be sure to see a few more turtlenecks in my rotation in the upcoming months. Am I saying that I found a new obsession with turtlenecks? Probably not, but it’s always good to keep all of the basics in your closet. That’s especially true for the most neutral of colors: navy, black, cream… As a little word of caution, even though I love wearing everything oversized and comfy, I don’t think that would be the best fit for this style of turtleneck. I’ve found that they are the most flattering when they are form-fitting. You’ll look so chic!
Okay, so let’s just say you all of a sudden feel compelled to go out and buy a whole slew of thin turtleneck tees. Where should you wear them too? Well, for starters, work is always a great place to try and upscale your look. I clearly love it paired with a pencil skirt (feeling very Joan Holloway ala Mad Men), but how corporate you would look tucked in with a pair of killer pants and matching blazer! Don’t worry, they also have a casual side too. This is the moment when you find a great oversized, almost sweatshirt like turtleneck and add to your favorite jeans and flats.
I think the best news of all is that almost my entire outfit is on sale with Talbots. On their website, they’re advertising 30% off all tops, making this the perfect time to stock up on all of your basic tees (like the turtleneck). Plus, if you use the code OCT40, you can get 40% off one regular-priced item. Happy shopping!
