Another new year, another 365 opportunities to explore and travel! At the start of each year, I like to daydream about destinations new and old to hopefully visit within the year. Some (most) of them will most likely not come to fruition, but just knowing the possibility is there helps keep me motivated. This list also won’t include the more spontaneous trips that make an appearance along the way. With that being said, here’s my list of travel daydreams for the year 2022.
Domestic
Charleston
There’s a city rich with history, great food, and pastel-colored buildings? Considered me sold! Charleston has long been calling my name, and I hate that it’s taken me this long to go for a visit. It’s just a half-day road trip away. Besides, if I visit, I would be able to meet some of my Instagram friends in real life. I think that’s totally worth it!
Palm Springs
People are surprised that I’ve never been to California. While the Hollywood and Los Angeles scenes don’t quite appeal to me, I’ve always thought I would love to visit San Francisco or San Diego. The number one city I would want to see is Palm Springs. You can thank Mary & Crew for that. Her frequent visits, with beautiful resorts and lots of antiquing, have me wanting to book a one-way ticket ASAP!
Miami
Yes, this is practically in my own backyard, but I’ve had minimal experience visiting Miami. Right before the world shut down in 2020, I drove down to meet my friend for an overnight trip and haven’t been able to go back since. Now that David’s job is based here, I think we’ll have plenty more reasons to visit. From Miami Beach to Coral Gables, I’m excited to someday explore every corner of this South Florida city.
New Orleans
This is the longest stretch that I’ve ever been away from the Crescent City. It is sincerely my favorite place in the United States! While Jazz Fest 2022 is still up in the air, I hope to get there for a quick weekend to eat around the city and revisit some of my favorite spots. For more inspiration, be sure to revisit all of my previous New Orleans content.
The Greenbrier
Is it wrong to visit a place for its interior design? If you’re a reader here, then you’ll probably tell me it’s 100% okay. Thank you for the support! Nestled in the hills of West Virginia, the historic Greenbrier has long been on my bucket list. I just want to see the bright and vibrant work of interior designer Dorothy Draper in person. Afterward, you’ll find me at their spa, relaxing the day away!
Palm Beach
I love everything about Palm Beach and am so thankful for my previous trips. In my mind, nothing will top my quiet and relaxing Bachelorette weekend at the Colony Hotel. I would love to show off this pristine corner of Florida’s Atlantic coast with David. I think he’ll really appreciate the great restaurants and beaches. Plus, he’ll be a good sport about going antiquing with me in West Palm.
Abroad
Merida, Mexico
One of my favorite bloggers, Stephanie Hill from The Style Bungalow, has been sharing snapshots from this quiet Mexican town. She even had her intimate wedding there. I instantly fell in love with the colonial architecture and historic streets. It’s a fairly short day of travel, and you can rent an entire hacienda for next to nothing. I’ll skip the party mood of Cancun for this any day of the week.
Bermuda
David and I had the chance to visit Bermuda a few years ago, and we’ve been daydreaming about returning ever since. While he typically takes some convincing to book trips, he has no problems adding Bermuda to the schedule. Why’s that? Because he loves the simplicity of staying at the Hamilton Princess. Relax by poolside or at their private beach club by day, walk into Hamilton for dinner and drinks at night.
Strawberry Hill, Jamaica
Thank you to Stacie Flinner for officially putting this Jamaican resort on my radar! Like Bermuda, I don’t think David will have too much of an argument about booking a stay at the Strawberry Hill Hotel. It would be a long weekend of pure relaxation. Sprinkle in nearby hiking trails, plus my penchant for jerk chicken, and I think this may be a destination we’ll both love for years to come!
Italy
I hate to generalize an entire country, but Italy is here because I want to visit every corner. She will always have the best memories of spending our honeymoon in Lake Como and Rome. While it’s so tempting to revisit places we already know we love, I’m open to seeing something new too. At the top of the list will probably have to be Tuscany, Venice, and Portofino, but how can you genuinely decide with so many great destinations?
Paris
I know it’s cliche, but Paris is just so incredible! I know many Americans who do not have the best time, blaming how rude the French can be. When I went a few summers ago, I fell in love! I think the secret is learning as much French as possible and apologizing for not knowing the language. It’s another place I want David to experience for himself. Then he’ll finally understand why I listen to my French Oldies playlist and daydream of drinking wine at Les Deux Magots.
London
While we’re in Paris, let’s add London to the list! After all, it’s only a quick train ride away. Growing up, I would have defined myself as a pretty big anglophile. So much of my travel inspiration comes from history, and you can’t describe London without that! More than that, London is obviously the perfect starting point to explore the rest of the country. If I could schedule in a Liverpool game, I think David would be just as excited to go!
No matter where the year takes me, I’m so thankful for another lap around the sun! Be sure to check back often to see what wild adventure I go on next! I hope all of your travel daydreams come true and that incredible, unexpected journeys appear along the way.
