Starting Your Holiday Shopping

Am I the only one who gets anxiety when going to the mall? I don’t know if it’s all of the stimulation from the stores or the sheer terror of the damage I could do to my bank account. I’m in and out of there as quickly as possible. That’s especially true during the holidays. Don’t get me wrong, I love the holiday season! My tree will be open right after Thanksgiving and I can’t wait to light up the Birchwood Pine candle by Nest. I know more and more people are starting their Christmas shopping, but I’m going to hold off just a little while longer.
Because I feel like I could go pro if Power Shopping was a sport, here are my best tips for shopping in record time.
Check Online First:
More and more stores, (Nordstrom, J. Crew, or Vineyard Vines to name a few) offer pick-up services It’s nothing short of a miracle, or magic, or both! All of your shopping is basically done online and your stress at the mall ends just by finding a place to park your car. Admittedly, even this is not an even feat!
Go Early:
Yes, I’m that girl who gets to the mall right when the doors open. It’s actually pretty great. First one in, first one out and I still have the entire day in front of me. Not to mention you’ll have the best parking spots, get to go into an immaculate stores, and work with employees who aren’t exhausted from dealing with customers. The early bird actually does get the worm.
Have a Plan:
This one is probably the most obvious, but have a list and stick to it! By going in with a game plan, you can cut down your shopping time like crazy. Don’t let the fun store windows drag you in. Know what you need to buy, put on your blinders, and you’ll be in and out in no time.
Shop Locally:
This tip may be a cop out, but there’s no better way to alleviate shopping mall stress than by avoiding it all together. In the past, I have recommended doing all of your online shopping, but anyone can do that. I’ve learned the value in shopping at boutiques that are local to your town. You can find so much of what you’re looking for, buy an incredible unique gift, and support your city.
To prove I’m not the worst of holiday buzz kills, I want to share an easy outfit that is helping me get in the spirit early. The red lace on these J. Crew pants is so rich and festive! Photos of it simply don’t do it justice. Although it’s a great option for all of your holiday parties, I secretly wish I could wear it all year round. Pairing it with a basic camel sweater gives the whole thing a really relaxed feel too. I can’t wait to dress more and more for Christmas!
Love from NYC,
Katie
