Starting My Next Career

Happy Monday everyone! After a blissful weekend of really nothing at all, I’m ready to start the work week with some vigor! In the past years, I’ve gone on and on about the start of the new school year, but you may have noticed that I’ve been pretty quiet on that front. That’s because I have some exciting news to share! After actively searching since living in NYC, I am finally starting my next career in social media and writing. Better still, I get to stay in the education world!
My new company is NYC based and in the Educational Tech space, specializing in creating engaging science and social studies content. My officially title is Community Manager and to say it’s a dream come true would be a severe understatement. While I’ve been along my new career path for just over a month, there’s still so much to learn! Essentially, I have the privilege of representing the company with the mindset of a teacher, creating content and interacting with educators to specifically fulfill their needs. It is sincerely the perfect job for me and I’m so honored to be able to join this team.
In my personal circle of friends and family, there were a lot of questions of whether or not I left the classroom because of COVID. While the stress of continuing as a teacher during a global pandemic weighed heavily on me, it was by no means a driving force to my decision. When I was living in Manhattan, I had a taste of the marketing and copy world. I had applied for dozens upon dozens of jobs, but just couldn’t quite land myself one. I simply love the irony of finally being able to find an NYC writing job quickly after moving back to Florida.
Now I get to fully dive into the world of working from home. Over the next few weeks, David and I are really going to settle into our new house. All I can say is, thank goodness we’re going to have more space! My little home office is starting to take shape nicely, and by that, I mean my desk and computer monitor are up! I’ve been scouring Pinterest, looking for some decor inspiration and can’t wait to share the final result. Until then, my dog’s bed is right next to me and that’s really all I need!
Even though it became my dream, there was a piece of me that didn’t think leaving the teaching world was possible. Now, it all seems like a great success story. If you’re in the process of switching careers, or at least daydreaming, my biggest advice is to keep going! There will be some rejection and lots of ignored e-mails. Keep at it! Eventually, with hard work and diligence, the perfect career and company will present itself and everything will fall into place.
Love from Florida,
Katie
