Spontaneous Girl’s Trip to Miami

If you would have told me this time last week that I would be spending the weekend on Miami Beach, I just wouldn’t have believed you! While I don’t turn down an opportunity to travel, spontaneous trips don’t pop up too often. That’s just what presented itself when I got a text from my sweet friend, Brooke. She lives in Pensacola, but had to fly to Miami for work. Would I want to drive down and meet her? My answer was a loud and resounding YES! Although the trip was a quick whirlwind, we such a great time. I can’t recommend a spontaneous girl’s trip to Miami enough.
Checked Into the Gale Hotel
For our overnight stay, we checked into the Gale Hotel right on South Beach. It had that effortlessly cool feel that you would expect from a boutique hotel, but is still part of the Hilton family. The whole vibe was really right up my alley. The attached restaurant was always buzzing with energy and there was even a speakeasy style bar for a more intimate feel. My favorite element though was the rooftop pool. It was a great opportunity to get a Birdseye view of Miami Beach, all with a cocktail in hand, of course.
Had Lunch at THE Versace Mansion
This has Brooke’s name written all over it! She booked us lunch reservations at the Versace Mansion. I didn’t even know that this was an option! There is something so satisfying about walking up the front steps and grabbing a poolside table al fresco. Every detail of the space was simply stunning with just enough opulence. I have to admit, the food was pretty average, but you’re going for the experience instead of the food. Seriously, all I could think about was, ‘if these walls could talk!’
Strolled Down Ocean Drive and the Art Deco District
After lunch, we enjoyed a nice, leisurely stroll down Ocean Drive back to our hotel. The architecture just didn’t seem real. There were blocks upon blocks of Art Deco buildings from the 1930s. Every building was so pristine, each more beautiful than the last. Some even had retro cars out front to really bring home the vintage feel. I definitely spied some favorites spots! On top of that, the street was just bustling with fun energy and was honestly a little contagious.
Stuffed Myself on Key Lime French Toast
Although we had a relatively quiet night, especially by Miami standards, we got up bright and early to enjoy the town without the crowds. Yesterday’s bustle on Ocean Drive had a completely different feel and I could really take in the history without feeling rushed. We stopped for breakfast at this sweet little spot called The Local House. It’s very rare that I splurge on indulgent breakfasts, but their Key Lime French Toast instantly spoke to me. Topped with a healthy portion of strawberries and meringue whipped cream, it’s a recipe I really need to recreate.
Toured the Savoy Hotel
On a whim, I decided to pop into the Savoy Hotel because I was looking for a coffee shop and had some gorgeous pictures online. Although the exterior to this space seems pretty standard with simple white walls, inside was an explosion of vintage tropics. We weren’t even staying here and the service was incredible. I was offered a tour of the property and how could I say no! The next time I’m in Miami Beach, and I hope that’s soon, I can’t wait to book my stay at the Savoy.
Took in the Color on Iconic Miami Beach
No trip to Miami Beach is complete with a walk along the Atlantic Ocean. On this particular day, South Beach was really showing off! If a sunrise and white sands aren’t enough, you’ll really enjoy the extra elements that make this strip of beach uniquely Miami. About every block, brightly colored, vintage lifeguard stations serve as markers. Each is worth taking a picture of, but it’s hard to choose a favorite. The beach front resorts also make their own statement with a rainbow of cabanas. I may book my next hotel based solely on beach chairs.
Seeing new parts of Florida never ceases to amaze me. It was my very first trip to see Miami and I didn’t expect to love it this much! But really, what’s not to like? With a fun atmosphere, beautiful aethetics, and delicious food, Miami may have just become a new frequent destination.
