Excuse me while I channel my inner 1950’s housewife. Although it’s not the most youthful style, I simply adore a mid-length shirt dress. It’s such a timeless look that is always elegant. Often, you have to splurge a little bit to find a piece that fits perfectly and masters the vintage inspiration. When Target debuted this year’s Designer Dress collection, I think I did a twirl when I saw the good things to come. There were so many gorgeous pieces at budget-friendly prices under $60. While it’s clear that I have a favorite, I thought it would be fun to round up my favorites from the three featured designers, helping you add something new to your closet.
Alexis
Alexis was founded in 2008 by a mother-daughter team of Ana and Alexis. They can be found in over 250 boutiques worldwide, and a dress from their collection typically costs between $400 and $700. There is something effortlessly chic about each of their pieces. Bold prints seamlessly flow with white eyelets and colorful power suits. The same expectation can be found in their collection for Target. There is an incredible selection of shirt dresses, including this striking cobalt blue piece. On the other end of the spectrum or more boho-inspired elements. Think laced wrap dresses and slouchy mini-dresses. Even though I love all three collections, this is the one I naturally gravitated towards. It meshed with both sides of my personality.
Christopher John Rogers
Talk about a chance to have a slice of high fashion. Admittedly, this designer wouldn’t be for everyone. At my local Target, I heard potential shoppers say, “I don’t get it.” Well, it just means that they can shop for something else. Christopher John Rogers is an NYC-based designer. He does not shy away from bold colors and patterns in daring (almost gravity-defying) silhouettes. Most recently, he was named the 2020 CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year. The collection for Target leans on similar themes, but in a way that is still attainable for your closet. This gingham midi-dress instantly spoke to me. I ordered but found that it ran a little snug in the chest, so consider sizing up. It should also come as no surprise that I adore this rainbow shirt dress. Again, I have a type.
RIXO
Rixo is the brand I was probably the most familiar with before this collection. This British label has long been on my radar because of their vacation-ready pieces in dainty, feminine florals. I adore the collection for Target for that very reason. There are so many beautiful prints that are just perfect for summer. The piece that most caught my eye was this patchwork slip dress. It’s currently hanging in my closet and fits like a dream. I can’t wait to break it out for a warm-weather date night with nude heels. It hugs in all of the right places and is incredibly flattering!
Between all three collections, there are just so many options to pick! Shop my favorites or take a close look at what each designer has to offer. Is something you love sold out online? Don’t sweat yet! Stop by your local Target, and it may just be there waiting for you. Happy shopping!
