A New Year of Travel
Dress || Heels || Sunglasses || Clutch
The older I get, the more I feel the travel bug. Social media doesn’t really help, but this dream to see the world actually stems back to my elementary school days. I would read and memorize any book I could get my hands on about other countries or cultures. One of my favorites was a book called Children Just Like Me. Fun fact about me: I’m a wiz at knowing country flags!
At the start of every year, I try to map out my travel plans into two different categories: planned versus daydreamed. The planned category isn’t always 100% guaranteed, but they are much more concrete and include pre-planned family trips. The daydreamed category is simply that, places I would love to go to if timing and finances both work out.
This year’s planned trips are…
- Bermuda: Our first trip of 2019 is just around the corner and I’m so excited for it! I’ve wanted to visit this tiny Atlantic island for quite some time, but now that it’s a quick flight from NYC, it’s so much more possible. February 2019 can’t come soon enough!
- Vermont: Right after our trip to Bermuda, we have a 48 hour turn around before we head up to Vermont for my brother-in-law’s wedding. It’s going to be COLD, but I’m hoping to venture out of my comfort zone and try skiing for the first time.
- New Orleans: David and I first went to the New Orleans Jazz Fest about 6 months after we started dating. I had been to NOLA many times, but this was probably one of my favorite visits. This year, we’ll be returning to Jazz Fest to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
- Harbour Island, Bahamas: I’ve kind of kept this trip under wraps, but last summer I had an unbelievable stroke of luck and won a trip to the Bahamas from a Vineyard Vines sweepstakes, of all things. This kind of thing has never happened to me before, but I never say no to another opportunity to soak up the sun.
- Palm Beach: On our way home from the Bahamas, I’m hoping to sneak in a day trip to Palm Beach before flying back to NYC. My girlfriends and I stayed at The Colony for my Bachelorette weekend, but I would love to show this perfect coastal town to David.
- Quito, Ecuador: This trip is still in the very earliest phase and may have to wait until 2020, but it’s extremely special. My future sister-in-law is from Ecuador and we hope to fly down as one big family for a wedding celebration in her home country. The thought of going to South America blows my mind and we have had multiple discussions about extending the trip to explore Ecuador and visit nearby Peru.
If that amount of travel isn’t enough (and it definitely is for my husband), I like to keep some trips in the backburner to daydream about or plan out for the future…
- Dublin: My crazy self was hoping to squeeze in a trip to Ireland to celebrate David’s 30th birthday, but as you can see, we’re pretty booked this Spring. Nevertheless, visiting both of our ancestral homes is the top of the list.
- Nantucket: Similar to Bermuda, Nantucket is a spot I’ve been pining to go, but wasn’t very convenient until moving to NYC. Any island will have a place on my list of places to visit.
- Cuba: Since we’re doing a lot of traveling this year, it looks like we’ll be having a low-key anniversary. But… If I could pick? I would love to spend a long weekend in Havana for a little adventure and lots of history.
- Stockholm: If you read my 2018 Travel Round Up earlier in the week, you would have learned that Stockholm was my favorite destination of 2018. It was a whirlwind 2 days there, when many shops were closed for summer holiday, but we would love to return and dedicate a full trip to Sweden. If there’s one more trip I think we can squeeze in 2019, I think this is the one… Probably around Christmas or for New Years Eve. I would love to see this Scandanavian city during the holiday festivities.
Not listed is St. Pete! I will obviously take as many trips back to my hometown to visit my family. The first trip on the docket is only two weeks away!
Where will you be heading this this year?

Katie
New Year, New Plaid
Romper || Sandals || Clutch || Sunglasses || Earrings
Despite being back in the NYC winter, I am daydreaming of dressing for the warmer weather again. Honestly, how many more days until summer? Going home for the holidays was such an amazing, much needed, reprieve. Being able to dress down was just an extra bonus.
This romper from Vineyard Vines is a great compromise between winter and warm weather. It’s perfect if you get the chance to escape the cold during the next few months.
There is just so much to love about this little piece. The blackwatch tartan is in this great tafetta fabric that can be dressed up or down. The tie in the front makes for a darling detail that works double time to also make it very flattering.
This romper is just as comfy as can be, but if you’re more of the dress type, I have an option for you too! They also make this print in a dress with a darling ruffle collar. Grab your best gal pal and let the photo ops ensue.
The best part? Both the romper and dress are on major sale! Head on over to Vineyard Vines and get either piece, or anything else in their sale section, for an additional 40% off! I’ve rounded up my favorite pieces to give you some shopping inspiration.
Love from NYC,
Katie
