My 50 State Bucket List

I’m always such a daydreamer when it comes to travel. It seems like a whole week can’t go by without me telling David about a new destination to visit. Whether it’s domestic or abroad, I’m my best self when I’m exploring some place new. As you all know, international travel just isn’t happening right now and my daydreams have had to adjust accordingly. Instead, I have my sights on what our country has to offer and thought it would be fun to share my 50 states bucket list.
Charleston, South Carolina
Just ask David, I’ve been bugging him about making a trip to Charleston all summer. This southern city has everything I could ask for: historic districts, a budding food scene, and charm! If I can finally convince him, you will be the first to know!
Kennenbunkport, Maine
Marrying someone from New England definitely has its perks, like being able to escape the harsh Florida heat. He’s shown me his hometown in Vermont and his college stomping grounds in Rhode Island. Next, I would love to take an Atlantic road trip through New Hampshire and Maine. He is convinced that I will fall in love, but there’s only one way to find out.
San Fransisco, California
This is another city that I’ve been promised to just love! My dad is one of those people and I secretly think he’s afraid I’ll move out there if we ever visit. David was actually able to live there for a short period and he’s given me the inside scoop. It’s an extremely open-minded city with amazing food and culture. The fact that it’s so close to wine country is just an added bonus.
North Shore, Hawaii
This is practically as far from Florida as you can get in the United States. I’m sure it makes an appearance on everyone’s bucket list, but I have more personal connection. My mom, being a navy brat, actually got to grow up here. I love hearing her stories of beach days on Waikiki, pineapple picking, and performing the hula for the governor of Hawaii.
Key West, Florida
It seems strange for a place in my home state to be on my bucket list, but if you look at a map, Key West might as well be states away. To get to the southernmost point, it would require a seven hour drive, a huge chunk of that through the Everglades. This November, we actually get to fly down for a friend’s wedding, hopefully. This will be chance to make the pilgrimage to Hemingway, Buffett, and Key Lime Pie!
Boston, Massachusetts
I like to call myself a little bit of a history buff, with the American Revolution being one of my favorite time periods. I won’t bore you with the why, but let’s just say listening to Hamilton on repeat has only reignited that. Visiting Boston and the Freedom Trail is specifically for the nerd in me. With that, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are just a short trip away.
Washington, DC
Okay, I’m cheating here. I’ve actually already been to DC, but it was several years ago with my parents. I’m almost a decade older (maybe wiser) and would love to explore the non-touristy spots. One of my favorite bloggers, History in High Heels shows off this city so well, from monuments to Georgetown.
Anywhere Else!
I think travel is one of the greatest things about being alive! Although it’s much harder in 2020, I will never say no to a new adventure. I know it’s an overused adage, but I truly believe in the “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”
In case you’re wondering, I’ve been to 25 states and counting. Half way down! That’s half a country to get to know and love. While I miss traveling abroad, now is the best opportunity to see our nation from a different perspective. Who knows, you may find a new level of love along the way.
Love from Florida,
Katie

Kennebunk Maine is my hometown- you would love visiting the Port!! It’s so charming there in the summer. Maine has very strict restrictions for tourists right now but I hope those will loosen as time goes on!
