Pairing Olive and Burgundy
Blouse (similar) || Pants || Heels || Handbag || Earrings
I know Halloween is over and done with, but I can’t help want to dress like Kate Middleton. For me, it’s not a costume thing. The Duchess of Cambridge has impeccable style. She’s classic, modest, but surprisingly attainable. Almost every new outfit she debuts ignites a huge spark of inspiration for me.
Last week, I recreated one of Kate’s more nautical outfits. I was so happy with how the pictures turned out and wanted to try it again. This week, I’m channeling Kate’s recent olive and burgundy ensemble. This look came from a surprise visit at London’s Natural History Museum and it’s received a lot of compliments. A high-waisted trouser and tucked in blouse isn’t my normal uniform, but I’m willing to get used to it.
I absolutely love the thought of wearing burgundy and olive together. Two quintessential fall colors paired together is such a good idea. They are also two colors that I have plenty of in my closet. I can’t understand why I never paired them together before, but I will be making up for lost time.
I’m not sure if Kate Middleton ever shops at J. Crew, like her sister-in-law, but they have plenty of items that are fit for a duchess. When I was trying to find the perfect matches to recreate this outfit, it was the first source I turned to. I found not one, but two blouse options. My pick is a tad dressier with the sheer materials and ruched sleeves. It comes in two different colors and would be great to wear to work. The other option, the more casual pick, feels almost like a sweatshirt, but the color is spot on.
Since Kate wore high-waisted olive green trousers, I needed to find a pair too. These pants from J. Crew may be more structured than what the duchess was wearing, but it still works perfectly with this outfit. The romantic details of the blouse works nicely with the menswear inspired elements in the pants. On a side note, these pants are extremely long and you may want to consider ordering a shorter inseam or find a good tailor.
To complete this Kate Middleton inspired look, just add your most ladylike handbag and a versatile set of heels. I have so much fun recreating looks from Meghan Markle, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie Kennedy. Even though these ladies lead very different lives, it’s still comforting to know that I too can dress like royalty. What outfit should I recreate next?
Love from NYC,
Katie
