From St. Pete With Love

One of my favorite aspects of moving back to St. Pete is getting to know this city all over again! It’s given me an opportunity to see the city with new eyes and re-fall in love. In the short time that we’ve been away, new restaurants, new bars, and new coffee shops have popped up. It may be currently be a little under construction, but it still feels like the same St. Pete to me. If you’ve never been to the Sunshine City, here’s what I’m sure you’ll just love!
We Have the Sunshine
Our city’s nickname, the Sunshine City, definitely lives up to its hype. We average 361 days of sunshine and even hold the World Record for most consecutive days of sun (768). It’s really hard not to fall in love with a city that offers so much Vitamin D all year round. As I’m writing this, the local temp is 72 and sunny… In the middle of February!
We’re Friendly Folks
You’re not going to meet a friendlier group of people than St. Petians. After all, it’s kind of difficult to be miserable in town with such great weather and sun. I love going out in St. Pete because we always manage to meet the most amazing people, no matter where we go. From age, to race, to background, St. Pete is extremely diverse. When you visit, be sure to chat with the locals.
We Have Beautiful Beaches
St. Pete is almost completely surrounded by water. To the west, we give way to St. Pete Beach and other Gulf beaches. On the east, we have Tampa Bay. In between we have plenty of intercostal ways and canals. Trust me, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the life aquatic no matter what your interest is: kayaking, sailing, boating, fishing, or sunbathing.
We HEART Art
Did you know that our tiny city offers 5 art museums? One of them, the Salvador Dali Museum, offers the largest collection of Dali’s work in the country. Artists also have an opportunity to take their work to the streets. Sprinkled all throughout downtown, you will find breathtaking murals. Every year, we even celebrate our street art with the annual Shine Fest, where new artists get a chance to make their mark on the city.
We’re Dog Friendly.
It’s hard to have an evening in St. Pete without running into four-legged friends. All throughout the city, you will find well-cared for dog parks and green space, this includes two dog beaches. Most of our restaurants offer outdoor seating, make them dog friendly too.
Our Restaurants Are Fantastic.
There are really too many restaurants to name in one sitting. I am definitely a devout lover of the St. Pete food scene. Even in NYC, one of the culinary capitols of the world, I would find myself craving some St. Pete dishes. You’ll of course find standard Florida cuisine, with Caribbean inspiration, but I would say our signature has become hamburgers.
I hope you know that this only the tip of the ice-burg (St. Pete pun). We have been called one of the most beautiful cities in the USA, the best city for millennials, and one of the most underrated cities in the US. And, I haven’t even started on the music, craft, and racing culture we have here!! St. Pete is no longer just a city for old folks to retire too. I hope to see you soon!
Love from Florida,
Katie
