Even though I’ve already started the Christmas kick this week, to me, nothing beats Thanksgiving! The holiday revolves entirely around family, food, and just a little bit of football (no gifts required). Sadly, I just realized that this will be my first Thanksgiving away from my parents and it may be a bittersweet day. Absolutely nothing beats my dad’s cooking and my mom’s cranberry relish salad is the most cherished Thanksgiving day tradition I can think of. I’m going to try and make it myself, but I don’t think I’ll be able to come close to the original. Short of FaceTiming my parents for the entire day, does anyone has any tips for spending Thanksgiving away from family?
This year’s plan is for David and I to lay low in the city, either embracing or hiding from the Macy’s Day Parade crowds. Our kitchen and bar cart will be full stocked for a nice, quiet day. Even though it’s just the two of us, we will be well fed, no short cuts! The same goes for our apartments Thanksgiving decor. I normally don’t get too invested, maybe it’s because I actually get to experience fall and the leaves changing this year, but I’ve sprinkled in some sweet little touches to make our tiny NYC apartment feel like a cozy, Thanksgiving space. If you’re still need to grab some last pick pieces for your own home, be sure to shop my Thanksgiving Decor Shop Guide down below. You can just grab a little ‘Thankful’ banner from Amazon or a seasonal Capri Blue candle from Nordstrom. Both are both currently on display here at casa ‘Orange to Apple.’
Most likely, this year’s Thanksgiving Day look will be a casual one. Something that will be comfy in the kitchen or a walk through Central Park if the mood strikes. This mock-turtleneck sweater from Nordstrom is simply perfect! Even though it’s not my favorite color to wear, this warm orange just screams all things Fall and Thanksgiving. Luckily, it comes in 5 other more neutral colors, making it a great closet staple. To give this look more warmth and character, I just swished on my go-to navy Excursion Vest from J. Crew Factory. Seriously, I don’t it’s possible to wear this too often!
Love from NYC,
Katie
