Central Park or Frozen Tundra?
Okay, Sunday’s 40* was clearly not freezing temperatures, but I did take it as an opportunity to test drive my new winter coat [parka] from LL Bean. This was my first time buying a winter jacket (ever) and I wasn’t going to take it lightly. When I asked around about winter wear, there was one name that stood out as the most recommended, Canada Goose. Despite the huge price tag, I found a lot of appeal. There were inspired by Arctic expeditions and could keep me warm down to -4 degrees. I loved how many options there were to choose from in color and warmth. But man, that price tag is steep! I really didn’t want to spend up towards a $1,000 on a jacket when I still had a whole wardrobe of winter clothes that I needed to buy too. I know it’s an investment piece, but it was just too much all at one time.
Ever the New Englander, my husband shifted my search towards LL Bean. I have to say, I was very impressed while I was researching. I knew I would have to buy one of the warmest jackets that they offered. Even if I picked the most expensive one though, it would still have been half the cost of the Canada Goose jacket I was eyeing. I finally decided on this Ultrawarm (great words to hear) Three Quarter Length Coat in ‘Night’. This is not your typical navy color, I’m talking an absolutely gorgeous blue! Anyways, at their warmest ranking, it’s meant to keep me toasty at 10* with light effort or -40* with moderate effort. The removable hood has a faux-fur trim that’s ready to tell winter ‘you mean business.’ The best part? The price tag! I was much more comfortable paying $235 for the jacket and even got an additional 25% off with one of their most recent sales. That kind of deal happens pretty often, so keep your eyes peeled.
I also used this blustery day to test out my new Bean Boots! I know everyone in their right mind this side of the Northeast already had a pair, but I just didn’t need them back where I’m from. I was kind of hesitant, but they were going to be a necessary evil. I mean, how clunky and ridiculously would I look in them? I was pleasantly surprised in how sleek they were. There was hardly any clunk at all! My pair is the 8″ inch height, but who knows. I may have to invest in the other styles if I’m going to make living in the cold a habit.
I feel like a Game of Thrones character recently. Winter is coming! And this Florida girl needs to stock up on sweaters and wool socks ASAP! If there’s something I just shouldn’t brave the cold without, please let me know!
Love from NYC,
Katie
