Over the weekend, we, our four-legged friend included, headed to the Hamptons to spend some time with our close friends. Although it was the wintery off-season, it felt so good to have some change of scenery and a quiet setting. It was an unseasonably warm weekend, allowing for a fun adventure. I even got to dress up in my favorite coastal grandmother looks to have the whole Nancy Meyers experience. Here’s a quick recap of our wonderful winter Hamptons weekend.
Bagels and Coffee for Breakfast
Is there anything more ‘Long Island’ than bagels and coffee? Or, should I say cawh-fee? The real question is, what’s your go-to order? For me, an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese is ALWAYS the right call. Tripp, our Basset Hound, was also a huge fan and couldn’t get enough of the cozy smells coming from the freshly baked bagels. With a cup of coffee in hand, we began our quick Hamptons adventure.
Walk through Downtown Westhampton
In the early morning, we strolled down the heart of Westhampton on Main Street. We window shopped at the local boutiques—many were closed for the season. Always a favorite activity, we couldn’t resist glancing at some of the local real estate. Although many (all) of the homes are out of our price range, I will always appreciate stunning homes and coastal architecture.
Scenic Drive down Dune Road
Eager for scenic views, we started a leisurely drive down Dune Road. With the bare trees, we got full views of the stunning oceanfront property. It naturally begs the question, “Seriously, what do these people do for a living?” Despite the off-season calm, The Hamptons’ signature blend of nature and luxury unfolded right before us.
Winter Beach Day at Ponquogue
Ponquogue Beach, usually buzzing with summer energy, welcomed us with a serene winter embrace. Bundled up against the coastal breeze, we took a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, iced coffee in hand. The sound of waves crashing on the cold sand and the crisp sea air provided a refreshing escape. Our winter beach day reminded us how beautiful this slice of Long Island is all year long.
Lunch at Skippy’s
For lunch, we went to Shippy’s, a beloved Southampton eatery. Established in 1954, consider it an elevated pub with signature sandwiches and decor. It began as a German-American restaurant and a local favorite of Joe DiMaggio and Frank Sinatra. Looking incredible for being a 70-year-old institution, Shippy’s unveiled a makeover in 2022 that helped bring a fresh face to an old favorite. I have a few spots in Connecticut where I would love to receive a similar treatment. Interior design makes everything taste better.
Sweet Treats To-Go from Tate’s
No Hamptons getaway is complete without a visit to Tate’s Bake Shop. With bags of sweet treats in tow, we embraced this quintessential Hamptons experience. Of course, their signature crisp cookies are incredible, but we decided to sample the things not found at our local grocery. Coffee cake, shortbread cookies, biscotti, oh my!
I grabbed a final vanilla latte, and then it was time to return to our friend’s home to relax. We had a fun double date night, which I’ll share later. It was less than 48 hours in the Hampton, but it was still exactly what I needed to recharge. Moral of the story… One, find friends with a Hamptons house. Two, always say yes to a spontaneous friend’s trip.
Love from the Hamptons,
Katie
