Welcome to the season of the Coastal Grandmother!
It’s so fun to watch trends and styles evolve over time. Sometimes they seem like hard left turns, and other times the progression is a bit more gradual. My social media has been full of the new ‘coastal grandmother’ aesthetic this week. While the name gives me a good chuckle, it’s a style that I am ready to embrace for this summer. Think neutral colors, breezy fabrics, and modest silhouettes. This style can probably find its roots in Malibu, the Hamptons, or even Southern France. You can think about Martha Stewart, Ina Garten, or your favorite Nancy Myer protagonist. She may tend to her garden in the morning before heading to the farmer’s market and hosting a sweet little soiree for her girlfriends.
How does the grand millennial play into this? Well, I’m starting to feel like it’s the next rendition of an evolving style. Where the floral patterns have given way to neutral colors and stripes, I see a lot of similarities in silhouettes and accessories. For example, both the grand millennial and the coastal grandmother love rattans and flowing dresses. Finally, the coastal grandmother has a more minimalist home aesthetic than their grand millennial counterpart. Both kinds of women love chinoiserie anything! Don’t worry! Ginger jars are always in style!
We can look forward to an easy-breezy summer with the coastal grandmother style. Hopefully, it can be on the coast with a chilled glass of rose in hand. I’ll save you a seat!
Love from Florida,
Katie
