Holly Golightly for Halloween

Tuxedo Shirt || Similar Flats ($50 off code SARAHFLINT-BAKATIE) || Eye Mask || Similar Earrings || Book Clutch
Admittedly, I’m not the biggest Halloween costume fan. I love eating my share of candy, but I would much rather be in more normal clothes than an entire ensemble. Still, it’s always a good idea to have a go-to costume in the reserves, just in case. Instead of pop culture or what’s trending on Netflix, I stick with classic movie icons. Not everyone will necessarily “get it,” but I’m dressing for myself. Even though there are so many different outfit ideas to choose from, I always go for Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Although the look changes slightly from year to year, I think this may be my favorite rendition. Well, besides dressing up on Fifth Avenue, of course. This outfit couldn’t be easier to throw together. With a bit of help from your closet and Amazon Prime, you’ll be just like Holly in no time at all!
Must Have: Oversized Tuxedo Shirt
The tuxedo dress is the top must-have to pull off Holly Golightly’s chic sleepwear style. While you can wear a white shirt dress or borrow an oversized shirt from your significant other, this tuxedo shirt dress from J. Crew was spot on and simply too good to pass up. While it’s a tad of a splurge, after Halloween is over, it can double as your own pajama set for years to come. A great, budget-friendly option would be this pick from Amazon, for $60.
Must Have: Iconic Sleepy Eye Mask
This accessory is another must-have. In fact, I think it completely makes the entire outfit! I’ve had my sleepy eye mask for several years and have packed it for long-distance flights on several occasions. While you may find a similar mask at your local costume store, the easier option may be to order from Amazon. That way, you’ll be guaranteed to have it in time for the holiday.
Must Have: Tassel Earrings
While not as important, it’s still part of Holly’s classic look. I had some nearly identical pink tassel earrings, a long-ago purchase from Bauble Bar. Because of our recent packing and moving during the last few years, I have no idea where they went. Instead, I just grabbed a classic pair of pearl accent earrings from St. Armands Designs. While not quite the style, they’re great if you’re in a pinch.
Optional: Capote Book Clutch
Not everyone knows that Breakfast at Tiffany’s started as a novella by fame writer Truman Capote. Even fewer have taken the time to read the less than 100 pages. While the movie takes some quotes and scenes directly from the source material, the Holly Golightly prototype was less Audrey Hepburn and more Marilyn Monroe. To accessorize your Halloween Costume, this book clutch would be a perfect addition! Previously, I ordered my Old Man and the Sea Clutchfrom this same Etsy shop, once seen in Key West. Her work is incredible, and I can’t wait to add another clutch to my ‘library.’
Optional: Colorful Ballet Flats
While Holly never left her eclectic Upper East Side apartment in this outfit, you may need to have a pair of footwear to match. Something about a colorful pair of ballet flats seems just right! Sadly, this beautiful pair of Sarah Flint Natalie flats is no longer available. Instead, you can shop the whole rainbow of colors, including a gorgeous pink croc pair). Use the code SARAHFLINT-BAKATIE for $50 off your first pair!
Optional: Coupe Glass
For a brief moment in the movie, Audrey Hepburn’s character relaxes on her unique couch with a coupe glass of milk. As you sip on drinks throughout the All Hallows Eve soiree, consider adding this vintage glass to your look. That’s especially true if you’re the host. Coupe glasses are always a great thing to have in your bar cart!
Optional: Paul Varjack Inspired Date
Do you want your significant other to join in on the fun? Paul Varjack, played by George Peppard, is the partner-in-crime/love interest in the story. His look can be instantly created with a slicked hairstyle, structured blazer, and a keen sense of wonder. A few years ago, David had this costume. No one quite understood who he was, especially if I wasn’t around, but he was comfortable, and it required zero prep.
Optional: Four Legged Friend
Finally, no girl is complete with a four-legged friend to come home to. While I have a penchant for basset hounds, Holly had Cat, “poor slob without a name.” Although she acted like they had a passive relationship, in the end, she realized how much she loved him. Include your favorite critter for a great interpretation of a modern-day Holly Golightly.
Although I’m a little early, I hope you all have a safe and happy Halloween. While I’ll be relaxing at the Gasparilla Inn for the holiday weekend, maybe Holly Golightly will need to make an appearance in Boca Grande!
