Even though it still feels like a warm summer day here in Florida, my social media has been full of all of the autumn feels. I can’t help but have a tinge of jealousy for those who already have the cooler weather. The Sunshine State will get there eventually. It just may take a few more weeks or months. Until then, I’m prepping my closet my prioritizing pieces that will seamlessly transition from one season to the next. Although it’s not a stark difference, there are some subtle notes to pick up on. When I first spotted this peach maxi dress from Target, I thought it was the perfect piece to help bring in the new season. Let’s break down this Summer to Fall boho dress.
The Color
While my New York friends are quickly tucking away pastels, I have the keen advantage of keeping them in rotation for just a bit longer. In fact, I typically can wear any color regardless of the season. It’s one of the significant advantages of living in a year-round warm climate. This soft peach is a great in-between. It has the upbeat qualities of a summer look while giving you a menu of options. Think of it as the young and carefree version of orange, which is always a staple in an autumn wardrobe. Because I recently watched the MET Gala Red Carpet, it reminds me of the gorgeous color that Billie Eilish wore. Alas, I’m holding my breath for an invite to next year’s gala.
The Fabric
On the hottest Florida days, wearing a lightweight linen piece can feel like such a blessing. One sure sign of a change in the season is that I can wear a (slightly) heavier fabric without becoming drenched in sweat. This particular dress has a wonderfully soft cotton that is thick enough not to need a lining. I almost want to say it feels like chambray, obviously without being denim. Thinking ahead towards the cooler months, this dress will still be seasonably appropriate. I loved the idea of wearing it with my knee-high heeled boots, but that would have obviously been a little much for a summer brunch.
The Style
It’s no secret that I have a penchant for boho-inspired dresses year-round, but something about them just seems so perfect for autumn. I think it mostly has to do with warm colors and patterns with longer layers and length. My Target dress is no exception. There’s a delicate lace detail throughout, which gives the dress an unexpected dash of charm that I just love! This number is also a true maxi dress. So, depending on your height, plan your footwear accordingly. For reference, I’m your standard 5’5″. I love that I can wear
The Accessories
If I chose to wear this dress in June or July, I would opt for rattan accessories and sandals every day of the week. Dressing for the Fall requires either darker and/or more seasonal neutral picks. I love how my chocolate brown Neely and Chloe handbag pops against the bright peach. No matter where I live, I always call this my ‘autumn bag .’ It always makes me happy to pull it out after a long summer. For footwear, as I said, I would have loved to wear with tall-equestrian-styled boots. In the meantime, I decided to pair a simple, nude pointed-toe heel. My exact pair is from Marc Fisher, but I recommend the Sarah Flint Perfect Emma instead. I have this style in a few colors, with the Sand Calf version next on my list. It’s the kind of heel you can wear all day long without the slightest ache or fatigue. 10 out of 10 recommendation!
And the most incredible thing about this dress? The price point! At under $30, this is the kind of dress that you snag in multiple colors, guilt-free! While it looks absolutely perfect in crisp white, the moody teal would be another excellent choice for fall. Play around with styling, and you’ll feel like you have an unlimited number of style options in just one dress.
Love from Florida,
