Hey there! It’s been a while and I only have myself to blame! If you haven’t heard, my husband and I recently bought our first home. Before we fully move in, there were some tiny things we wanted to update and it’s been taking all of my personal time! I can’t wait to share all of the details, but first I want to take a second to reflect on Summer 2020. It is always my favorite season. There’s just something so liberating about warm weather and endless possibilities. Typically, I would cram in as much travel as possible, but that’s just not a reality this year. Still, for how crazy and unforgiving the year 2020 seems, there are still so many things that I’m thankful for!
My City
The fact that this has become an extremely polarizing time aside, I am so grateful for how the Sunshine City has responded to this event. Like much of Florida, St. Pete thrives on tourism and the hospitality industry. Because of this, locals have really stepped up to highlight their favorite homegrown businesses and establishments. Most business owners, in turn, have been doing their part to ensure that everyone can follow health guidelines and stay safe. Watching my little city thrive during such an unprecedented time fills me with hope.
My Support System
There are too many people to list off, but I am so thankful for everyone in my network of family and friends. From daily calls with my parents to planning future trips with my girlfriends, sometimes just a quick text message gives me the social interaction I crave. Admittedly, I’ve been feeling my mood rollercoaster, which I know is normal, and I am tempted to isolate myself. What has worked best for me, is to muscle through and maintain the connections with those I hold so dear. And yes, it also includes a lot of cuddle time with Tripp the Basset Hound.
New Opportunities
David and I both have several new ventures coming up. How often do I get to say that aloud? Sometimes I’d like to think of ourselves as a ‘Power Couple’, but David is truly the brains behind the operation. Speaking for myself, I will share more details later in the week, but some of you may have noticed a little lack of classroom content. Hint, hint!
The Future
My mantra for the year 2020 has been, This too shall pass. It’s something I say to myself almost daily and have recently said to my loved ones on several occasions. That being said, the greatest thing I am thankful for is the future. After nine months of constant nationwide headlines, I can’t help, but be excited for the longterm. Change is happening and we get to witness it first hand. When it’s difficult and uncomfortable, remember that we will become better people because of it!
Even if it’s been a rough day, week, or year (cue the Friends theme song), it’s always important to take a pause and find the good. Think about what is in your control, what can be handled differently, and what you have to look forward to in the future. This tiny moment for yourself can be a huge step in the way of mental health. Cheers to a great fall season!
Love from Florida,
Katie
