8 Ways to Lift Your Spirits
Dress (also) || Sandals (similar) || Clutch || Earrings || Bracelet || Watch
Just like everyone during this current situation, I’ve been feeling my mood ebb and flow. Over the course of a week, I can feel optimistic, stir crazy, frustrated, and so grateful. For one, this is yet another friendly reminder that all of that is perfectly normal. Overall though, I try to keep a positive attitude. Some days are harder than other, but so much easier by sprinkling in activities that lift my spirits. The list of possibilities is endless, but here are my 8 favorites.
Find a Good Book to Read
I was such an avid reader when I was a kid, but fell out of that habit in my adult years. All of this time at home has been a great opportunity to reestablish to old habits, like diving into a new book. My favorite genre is non-fiction. Reading about my favorite places and people makes for the perfect escape from our little St. Pete apartment.
Make a Family Recipe
When we moved to New York, my mom gifted me a cookbook full of family recipes. Normally, I would save them for special occasions, but cherished food is something that always puts me in a good mood. Better still, it helps me feel more connected to my family, even while we’re apart. My mom’s peanut butter pie recipe is simply the best!
Plan a Girl’s Trip
Since trips in the early summer are looking less unlikely, I like to give myself something to look forward to. Right now, that’s taking the form of planning different trip with my girl friends. Although I feel like I haven’t been doing much, I’m needing a vacation. Sitting on a Caribbean Beach, with a cocktail in hand, sounds pretty good to me right now.
Go on a LONG Walk Through Town
I know I brag about living in St. Pete often! What can I say, I love living here and the setting alone is enough to put me in a good mood. No matter where you live, I suggest going for a long, hour plus, walk in your town. Really take in the surroundings and make special note of restaurants or shops that you may have skipped over. I promise the blast of fresh air alone will be worth it.
Have a Themed Dinner or Date Night
Our date nights certainly have changed over the past few weeks. Instead of our typical Friday night out, we are obviously staying at home. Recently, we’ve been getting pizza to-go from one our local favorites, but I’m ready to start shaking things up. My latest idea is to recreate our favorite bars and restaurants from living in NYC. Bemelman’s Bar at The Carlyle and The Polo Bar are obvious choices. I’m not sure on the details, but when I am, I’ll be sure to share!
Master a New Signature Cocktail
While we’re on the subject of date night, let’s talk cocktails! I’ve been getting more and more adventurous in my weekly drinks. Trying new recipes is so much fun, but I still need to perfect the signature. Pick a cocktail that will be a crowd pleaser and you’re sure to be a hit at any party… When we can be around our friends again!
Get Gussied Up for No Reason
I know it’s so tempting to just hang out in pajamas all day. That being said, getting properly dress up, even with no where to go, feels amazing! That’s why I’ve been really mindful of getting fully dressed each and every morning before my work day starts. It makes me feel so much more productive and gives me that little extra motivation. My go-to uniform has been ladylike dresses in light and airy fabrics. They are functional, comfortable, and just perfect for working at home.
Have a Sing Along to Your Favorite Oldies
It’s common knowledge that music can greatly alter your mood. Use that to your advantage by playing music that makes you feel like your best self. I love starting my day by playing some 60’s or mo-town hits and singing along as I get ready for the day. The best days are when I can convince David to join along with me.
If you’ve been feeling a little out of source recently, know that I’m right there with you! Although we can’t control what’s going around the world, we can take small steps to control how we feel. I invite you try one of my favorites. I hope that at least one helps you turn around your day.
