An Evening with Flamingo Mag and J.McLaughlin
Dress || Wedges || Handbag || Earrings || Bracelet
Since moving back to Florida, I have become extremely focused on reaching out to local businesses. One of those is Flamingo Magazine. It’s a lifestyle magazine on the scene, written by Floridians for Floridians. On a whim one day, I decided to introduce myself. Whenever I pitch my blog I never really know what to expect, but I was so happy when they quickly responded and invited me to a fun event right in my backyard!
The Location
Even though it’s only 30 minutes away, I don’t really get into Tampa very often. Trust me, the traffic can be such a nightmare! So, when the opportunity presents itself, I try to make the most of it! Last night’s event was hosted in the gorgeous Hyde Park neighborhood of Tampa. It’s an extremely picturesque part of town with a great selection of boutiques and restaurants. David actually works nearby, so he was able to meet me before hand for a cup of coffee at Buddy Brew. It was such a nice way to unwind and have some one-on-one time.
The Partnership
The event was hosted at the chic J.McLaughlin boutique. It’s harder to get more ‘Florida’ than with this brand. Although it was originally founded and based out of New York, it has fully embraced that resort mentality. Imagine bright colors, exciting fabrics, and lots of rattan! It has won a place in my heart and is slowly taking over my closet. Their sweet shop served as the perfect location to celebrate the best of what Florida has to offer.
The Cause
Last night wasn’t just all fun and games. There was a good cause that went behind it too! 15% of last night’s proceeds went to the Path of the Panther charity. The Florida Panther is one of the most endangered species in the country and land development continues to shrink their habitat. The donations received will help researchers find efficient pathways for Florida wildlife to roam freely. To really drive the point home, pictures of the panther were displayed throughout and couldn’t help but catch your eye.
The Event
What’s a party without music, food, and drink? All three were accounted for at last night’s soirée, and then some. Nearby bartaco catered the event with delicious little bites and their delicious salsas. The cocktail of the evening was affectionately named the Jungle Bird and was right up my alley. The exact recipe remains a mystery, but it was blend of local Florida Cane silver rum, Aperitivo, strawberry, pineapple, and lime juice. The result was a drink I could seriously sip all day. Finally, music from J.T. Brown made the shindig really feel like a party!
The Collection
Last night’s event also celebrated the latest new arrivals from J.McLaughlin. Let me tell you, everything is simply stunning! I’m pretty sure I openly drooled over this particular blue floral dress. The boho silhouette and carefree shape is exactly my style! J.McLaughlin can also serve as your ultimate destination for summer bags. Countless rattan bags, many with bamboo accents, are perfect for the woman who always dresses for summer. Don’t forget the men in your life. While at the event with me, David spotted several pieces, including this belt and pullover sweater, that he wants to add to his own closet.
When it comes to throwing a party, Flamingo Magazine really knows how to stand out! Again, I’m so thankful to have been included and can’t wait to get the next issue in the mail. If you’re a fellow Floridian, I cannot recommend this magazine enough to stay in touch with what’s going on around the Sunshine State.
