2020 Travel Updates

When it comes to travel, my dance card looks pretty full for 2020. Over the past few weeks, we have been able to finalize and get more details on so many trips for the first half of the year. Some of them are extremely local and others will take us to the other side of the world. I simply feel so blessed this year. February is really our last quiet month. After that, we are literally traveling at least once a month for the foreseeable future. Here’s a closer look at where we’ll be heading in 2020 (updated).
March: Sea Island, Georgia
Thanks to some of my favorite bloggers, I’ve been daydreaming over this pristine slice of Georgia coastline for the past few years. The Cloisters will be our first travel destination of the new year. We’ll be attending one of my dear friend’s weddings and I’m counting it as the social event of the season! With a black tie optional dress code, David and I will be gussying up with our formal best and dancing the night away.
April: New Orleans + Jazz Fest
This will be about my tenth time visiting the Crescent City and I’m just as excited as if it were my first. New Orleans is always a fun time, but I think their annual Jazz Fest is the best that the city has to offer. There’s great music (obviously), delicious food, local art, and the nicest group of people. At the beginning of the year, we weren’t really planning on making this a stop in 2020, but I’m so happy that we did!
May: Gasparilla Inn + Boca Grande
Of all the places on my travel list, this one is mostly based on aesthetic. A few weeks ago, I shared my Florida bucket list and staying at the Gasparilla Inn is high up there. There tag line is ‘Florida as it was meant to be’ and that sounds pretty wonderful. It’s actually a pretty exclusive hotel and finding a reservation can sometimes be tricky. I was absolutely floored to find availability during Memorial Day Weekend.
June: Lima + Cusco, Peru
This is the one! When David and I first started dating, we listed off some of the places in the world that we wanted to see. We found that most our lists overlapped and Machu Picchu was pretty high on both. Since we didn’t have a big international trip together last year, we decided to take the plunge and plan for eight days in Peru. Obviously, I want to experience as much as this country has to offer. It’s so diverse and probably needs at least a month to really see. Because we’re limited on time, we’re focusing on Lima, a huge food Mecca, and Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu. The end of the school year can’t come soon enough!
July: Vermont + More
I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Vermont in the winter several times, but David says his favorite season in the Green Mountain state is Summer. It’s when you can say how Vermont really got it’s nickname! It will be a trip of hiking, relaxing at the lake house, and hopefully a day trip to somewhere new! Since Montreal is just a short trip away, and I’ve been dying to visit, but David had a day trip to New Hampshire in mind. Decisions, decisions!
September: Quito, Ecuador
I’m pretty sure this will be the last big trip of 2020, but we’re saving the best for last! Since my sister-in-law is from Ecuador, she’s decided to have a wedding celebration for her family in Quito. Sadly, because it’s during the school year, we won’t be able to spend as much time as I would want. The five days we have in Ecuador will jam packed with sight seeing and an unbelievable South American wedding.
What’s exactly not on this list yet? My year already seems pretty full! I always want to make room for weekend trips with my girlfriends, like to Palm Beach and 30A. A blogging conference in Savannah is scheduled for August and I’ve been dying to go for a few years. Wherever the rest of the year takes me, I’m so thankful for an amazing travel companion (David) and whatever destinations present themselves.
Love from Florida,
Katie
