Winterizing a Slip Dress
Slip Dress (also) || Blazer || Boots || Handbag || Earrings || Watch || Bracelet || Necklace
A summertime trend that really took a hold of me was the satin slip dress, originally post here. My midi-length dress from Madewell was one of my favorite purchases of the season. It started as the perfect dress to wear while on a quick trip to Las Vegas and made a second appearance on a girl’s trip to Paris. I loved wear it for date night and even the occasional events in the city. Pretty much, whenever I had an opportunity, I would wear the dress.
Summer has long since been over and my favorite midi dress has been sitting in my closet just begging to be worn. I wanted to get one last wear in during the fall and before the real cold weather started. On our date night last Friday, I finally took my chance! That particular night, it was still very chilly, but my knee high boots from Sam Edelman kept me comfortable. Because of the dress slit, you got a fun peek at them as I walked down Madison Avenue.
My standard navy blazer from J. Crew seemed like the most natural choice for a coverup. Even though it’s typically a classic preppy staple, I still felt incredible chic and put together. My brown handbag from Neely & Chloe perfectly rounded out an easy date night look.
Speaking of date nights, David and I had one of the most magical nights in the city on Friday. I had been dying to visit Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel since we moved here. We finally took the plunge and headed out for a quick cocktail. We got there right before the post-work happy hour crowd and grabbed a table next to the piano. The interior is dark, but you can clearly see the 360 degree mural painted by Ludwig Bemelmans, the creator of Madeline. It’s his only public mural in the world and an absolute treasure.
We thought this would be a quick drink and then head home for dinner, but we were having the best time and wanted to keep them coming. The piano player was playing my favorite classics and took all of the request I would throw his way. The next time you’re in the city, this should definitely be a place you visit. The cocktails are a little pricey, but oh if these walls could talk! Some of the biggest names in NYC culture and beyond have grabbed a drink here too. Their classic cocktail is the Old Cuban, my personal favorite.
I still don’t want to be done with my slip dress quite yet and am brainstorming ways to wear it into winter. I’m thinking it would be so fun around New Years under a faux-fur jacket and oodles of costume jewelry. It’s always so exciting when you try a new trend for the fun of it and wind up having a new favorite piece! How would you style a slip dress for the winter?
Love from NYC,
Katie
