Falling for Newport with Vionic

I just can’t believe that today is the first official day of fall! Summer is always my favorite season. There’s warm weather, I celebrate my birthday and anniversary, plus I have the most opportunities for travel. Although it’s sad to see summer leave us, I’m looking forward to the new season and all that comes with it. Now that I’m working on a freelancer schedule, I feel like I can really take it all in. Waking up to a crisp morning and wandering the city, with some leaf-peeping in Central Park sounds amazing.
I’m also hoping to take advantage of the season by planning some fun weekend trips. Last year, even though I really wanted to, we didn’t make it to an apple orchard or pumpkin patch. The big ticket item is taking a fall foliage cruise to Cold Spring, up the Hudson River from the city. David, being from Vermont, thinks it’s a little silly that those things are so high on my list. Look, Florida hardly shows any sign of fall. Last time I checked, it was still 90 degrees back home and that’s not exactly ideal for sweaters and apple cider.
If you are wanting a quick fall escape from the city, I cannot recommend Newport, Rhode Island enough! The town’s motif is much more nautical than foliage, but you’ll quickly fall in love. You can switch your apple cider for a cup of New England clam chowder to keep warm. Wander the charming downtown wharfs or hike the cliff walk for a healthy dose of ocean air.
Even though it was still technically summer, Newport felt every bit like fall. The mornings were cool and sunny, the perfect reason to break out some new sweaters. I had a cream fisherman style sweater from J. Crew that I wore and loved until it had to go into retirement. My new sweater from Vineyard Vines has made for the perfect replacement. It’s incredibly soft and the right amount of oversized.
Newport was also the time to debut my new booties for fall. Vionic was so kind to send me a pair of their Paloma wedges. I was blown away by the comfort level. This company strongly believes in foot health. They use biomedical technology to create a line of shows that you won’t mind wearing all day long. From the hilly cobblestoned streets of Newport to the avenues of Manhattan, these shoes will treat my feet right.
This ‘griege’ color is exactly what it sounds like. Part grey, part beige, it is extremely versatile to work with anything in your closet. The picture on their website makes it look more like a chocolate brown, but in person it seems much more muted.
Welcome back fall! I can’t wait to style for the season and take full advantage of some cooler weather. What are you the most excited for?
Love from NYC,
Katie
