Over the years, I’ve been able to notice my relationship with colors change and evolve. Even from season to season, I gravitate towards different hues to reflect my mood or the weather. No where is that clearer than peeking at my past Instagram posts. While living in New York, especially during the winter, I opted to blend in with blacks, and greys, and navys. Moving back to Florida meant an explosion of bright colors, especially the ever cheerful yellow.
The most recent step on my never-ending color journey has been cool tones in green and blue. Even in the most dire of times, they help me feel relaxed. One of them even has more of an emotional attachment too. That would be Kelly Green. It’s part of an overall theme in the Orange to Apple webpage and that’s because of what it represents. My love for this color is pretty substantial, and it’s not just because I like how it looks on my olive skin tone.
The number one example of green in my life would have to be my engagement ring from David. When we first discussed getting engaged, and ring designs, I told him how much I loved the look of an emerald stone, oval cut, with a simple yellow gold band. Although gemstone engagement rings are becoming more common, they are definitely less traditional than a diamond. On the day David proposed, I was equally surprised to find my dream emerald ring right inside. While it signifies our love and commitment to one another, I also think it exemplifies our communication.
Green is also the color of nature, where I feel the happiest. I know I don’t come across as the most outdoorsy person. Still, even in Florida’s hottest of summers, I always try to get outside as often as I can. Nothing beats fresh air and a gentle breeze. Although I’m no expert, I feel like it almost has healing properties.
Excuse me while I have fun with some paint samples, a little hint on some great things to come! Anyways, this Palm Green blouse from Tuckernuck is the most perfect shade I’ve ever seen! The puffed sleeve and linen like fabric gives it a bohemian look and makes me feel like I’m on a permanent vacation. While it would so crips and fresh with white jeans, my medium-wash jeans from J. Crew makes it extremely casual. If green isn’t your thing, which I totally understand, it also comes in classic black and white options.
No matter the color, it’s important to find one that really uplifts. Take a moment to find your own. Whether you call it your power or signature color, it has the ability to make turn a good day into a great one. Especially in this current time, it’s nice to have a full proof plan to add some cheer, even if it’s just for personal use.
Love from Florida,
Katie
